Beautiful Disease | |
|---|---|
The "Beautiful Disease" series is based on my concept of humanity as a paradox. I see man kind simultaneously as creators of great beauty and purveyors of destruction. I am intrigued and bothered by this ambivalent sort of emotion, it divides me, invoking both pride and self loathing. It is an idea that has permeated my being to the point of inspiring a series of paintings. This is my first conscious attempt at a series, and it seems to have arrived quite naturally. Everywhere I go I feel the claustrophobia of a world teeming with people, on the subway, on the street, everywhere I see our waste, our filth, our violence, and cold indifference. Yet still I walk the city at night and marvel at the lights, and beautiful architecture. I enjoy the company of people and the variety that the multitudes of a city can provide. I see so much beauty in the small things that we do. In my confusion I started to look at google maps on a frequent basis, dwelling on the vast clusters of civilization. Luckily this inspired the perfect image for my emotion. The earth encrusted with buildings and tangled in highways, but the earth was not the earth, it was a human figure. Because the earth is me and it is you. The buildings and highways are achievements that spread like cancer across the planets surface, crowding at the likes of me and you. It is a self inflicted kind of disease, and despite it's horrors, it is beautiful. | |
Do You Like Whats Inside | |
|---|---|
"Do you like whats inside?" is a series based on human interaction and what it is that we judge others upon. In a world where appearance is the number one basis for most of our assumptions, I feel strongly that we should make an effort to do otherwise. People are usually not what they seem. This can lead to beautiful discoveries and horrifying revelations, but in any case it is a truth that I have come to realize and would like to remind others about. | |
